Seasons greetings to all and hope you all have a wonderful new year.

Gaya mau tau!

The BruOz football games commenced last weekend at Padang Kebajikan under the very hot afternoon sun. Our team, DRMSyd, arrived one by one wearing their new jerseys proudly. Trademark numbers were imprinted on most players’ jerseys including no. 445 (Fadhli Saedon), no. 27 (Majdi Jasni)…there was even a unique name on Don Airul Hafneh’s jersey “McHafneh”! Sydneysiders were also there to lend their moral support for the team arriving with containers full of sandwiches and cameras fully loaded, some even staying till the bitter end.

The line up for the day was Captain Asqa, Don McHafneh, “Ular” Oz, Chong, Victor, no. 1 defender Majdi, and strikers Fadhli PC, Abib and Yamin. In the absence of our star keeper, Yoshi, several of the players had to take turns filling in the position. So, Fadhli, Abib and Oz were put to the test that day as both strikers and goalies.

Five matches were played:

vs. Oracle : 1 – 0

Goalie: Fadhli

The match began with DRMSyd executing numerous attacks on the opposing team. Repeated attempts to score by both Oz and Abib were saved by the “kabal” keeper of Oracle. On our side, Fadhli kept the spirits cheerful by playfully saying “(name of opposing player) buruk~~~”, and focusing on his new role as rookie goalie by successfully saving several of Oracle’s goal attempts. By the end of the first half, neither team managed to score.

Yamin played in for Oz, and it took a while for the team to get back into momentum. Majdi’s killer free kick managed to keep the Oracle goalie on full alert, when it hit the goal post. Attack after attack, and still no goal! These attacks came at a price for Oracle’s goalie. Abib kept kicking the ball as if aiming for the keeper’s head since it hit his head twice! Then, close to the end of second half, Abib took a corner kick which was then deflected to Yamin. The unusually quiet player saw the opening and WOOSH~~~GOAL!

vs. Griffith All Stars: 0 – 2

Goalie: Abib

This was a bitter match with Griffith scoring a goal in the first minute of the game. The opposing team was clearly on the offensive the entire time, testing Majdi’s defending skills. Thankfully Abib recovered quickly from the initial shock of Griffith’s early goal and managed to squash many of Griffith’s ‘angan2’ expectations of scoring any more. Opportunities were opened and lost to DRMSyd many times with some of our players “caught ball-watching”, as told by Asqa. Shouldering the responsibility of team captain, he gave a short peptalk to the players pointing out improvements that could be made by the team for the following match.

Seriousness of the match aside, it should be known that Asqa pulled a superman stunt while furiously fighting to gain possession of the ball one-on-one with the Griffith player during the second half. Just when he thought the ball was finally his, he sprinted to get it and tripped over the Griffith player’s outstretched leg..practically ‘flew’ and landed face-down on the ground. Ouch! Superman banar eh…

vs. Maestro: 2 – 2

Goalie: Oz

By this time, it was already late noon. The weather was freakin' H-O-T! We made the mistake of sitting down on the bench and suffering from the consequences, i.e. a burning backside! Although, compared to Yamin's reaction to the heat, Airul didn't seem to mind. It was clear his mind was focused on the game. Baru ia Rul~~ So this is what happened in the third match:

DRM lead the game with a 1-0 score in the first half made by Fadhli. Maestro quickly equalized, building up the intensity of the match between the two teams. Play was very tight, with Maestro players on the offensive. Focus was put on centre field where Faiq a.k.a Chong tried to keep constant possession of the ball while being surrounded by at least 4 opposing players like a bunch of wolves. He did liven up the atmosphere of the match when he misaimed a pass and yelled out in surprise. Still at a 1-1 draw, DRM fought to get another goal. And then..there it was..just the chance that the DRM strikers needed. With two Maestro defenders covering Abib and Asqa, Fadhli stood unmarked behind them. A skilful pass and swift kick later, DRM supporters whooped for yet another goal made by Fadhli! Maestro counterattacked then and thankfully many of their attempts were saved by Oz. Unfortunately, they eventually managed to get through the DRM defense and scored an equalizer towards the end of the match.

vs. Papz: 1 – 3

Goalie:Oz

During DRM’s counterattack to Papz within the first few minutes of the match, Abib managed to score a goal for the team shooting squarely to the bottomcorner of the goal. However, the highlight of the game would have to be the Oz incident. If the matches DRM played were to be ranked according to the talur-est, this would top the list. While DRM continuously tested the defense line of Papz, Oz was “busy” socializing with people standing on the sidelines. So, when the ball whizzed past the DRM goalie’s head straight into the net, the look on all the players’ faces to find their goalie talking was one of shock and disbelief. It was such an "out brabis" action to be done by a goalkeeper that they couldn't help but laugh at the mistake he'd just made.

vs. Mixed Suburbs: 2 -3

Goalie: Fadhli

The prospect of winning the ‘cup’ was no longer in the DRM players’ sights by the last game. Knowing full well, it was already out of reach, they approached the last game with Sydney trademark krek attitude. However, funnily enough, it was during this match that some agreed the players performed at their best. Passes were done smoothly, along with a continuous line of attacks against the opposing team. When Majdi scored the first goal, it was celebrated by the players as if they were in a stadium full of hundreds of supporters!!

So how did Abib celebrate the goal that HE shot? Obviously he showed off to all those on the field, the BASS trademark pose patented by Fadhli….the Fadhli pose!

There you have it. Five matches, all played by sydneysiders who were there to have some fun….to obviously make sure gaya came first before winning…and to have some more memorable moments for our beloved football team. =) More pix on photobucket =D

IDEAS
With everyone back in Brunei, this website seems to go a little too quiet for my tastes, so I've been trying to think of a few ways to livin it up. I was thinking of weekly polls or contests, with bass related prizes. hahah, we need a budget for that though. Also, what type of news do you guys want posted up here. And to those who have a knack of writing, maybe we can put weekly articles up for living tips in sydney, but all this requires massive feedback from you guys. So what do you think and if you have any suggestion, we're all ears!

My Submission

Hi guys i did some mod of what hadee has posted up along with a new logo, but my design has less testosterones =P

Logo A - Just did it tonight, Koala Logo. Inspired by WWF logo. I love it. The advantage of this logo compared with the roo version is that this would be very ideal to be put on polo shirts etc.

Logo B - Kangaroo Logo with Red Stripes 50% less testosterones

Logo C - Roo Logo Simple. Minimalist, Contemporary. My fav. of the Roo Versions.

Logo D - Roo Logo Red Outline. Lazy. I hate it.

In other words, kick butt guys!

Hope you all get black robes (that has always been the colour of graduation robes right??) at the end of this. In the meantime, enjoy bathrobes saja dulu...

Exam Diary

Hi guys,

I was just playing around with photoshop on a study break, at the same time talking to Hadee about possible bass logo design. I sent him a copy of a design and hadee popped up the brilliant idea of making the design as a t shirt instead.

If this design is well received by all, i would appreciate if someone headed research on costs and manufacture of these t shirts. Again, i'm opening this opportunity to 1st-3rd years to be coordinator.

Design is minimalist and fun... so theres no keris, ayer mulehs, oak leaves or books with latin scripture on the design compared to other brusoc designs. We're a student society, not the royal chamberlain. Sydney aura supposed to be fun, no?

Anyway, post up what you think. This is just a result of me playing around with photoshop anyway.

When? Sunday, 28th October 2007.

Some would question about the embassy's function on the 27th. Go for that one as well.

You guys would be saying "WHAT??"

Who says you can't do both? Last year, Faiq, Najaa and me did just that. Rented a Car, left canberra at dawn and completed the walk by sunset. But if you must choose one, then go for the Canberra function, trust me, it feels great to be part of the celebrations there.

for more information and to register, please visit

7 Bridges Walk Website

Register by the 26th October

Just in case you cant finish, dont worry, theres FREE transport at checkpoints all around to bring you back to the rocks. Be reasonably fit for the day (waseh, macam banar)

As for the overused question of "Rul, Kau Pigi?" Inda, im not going. I got my thesis presentation the next day with an exam knocking on my door the day after that.

But we'll see. I've known to seemingly do psychotic things on impulse. we'll see...

ps. If you miss this walk, i'll be organising that Walk in Manly ive been promising during stuvac. =)

Raya Trip To Canberra,

We are thinking of hiring a van for the excursion to Canberra. The journey will take approximately 3-4 hours. The van fits only 12 people, therefore it is going to be a first come first serve kinda policy. We can accommodate additional 6 people and need to book the van ASAP (cheaper to book in advance). We estimate the cost per person to be around 20 plus or less depending on the number of people coming. Anybody who is interested to split costs on the fuel and hire are most welcome to contact me.

Sungkai Gathering

Dear Bruneian Sydneysiders,

The first years are holding a sungkai gathering & everyone is invited!

It’s ‘pot luck’ so it’d be nice & much appreciated if everyone can bring some food on that day. Well, not really everyone but maybe one meal from a household. Hence no money collection, less hassle that way. The organizers will prepare the main course, so you just need to worry about the side dishes.

But here are some suggestions of what you can bring:

- Paper/plastic plates, cups, spoons & forks
- Drinks
- DESSERTS.
- Pasta
- Noodles
- Bubur Kacang (Daus*ehem*Daus)
- Air puspa.

(Let us know what you’ll bring on that day on the comment page.)

Here are the details:

What’s up: Majlis Tahlil, Sungkai Beramai & Sembahyang Maghrib dan Isya Berjemaah

When: October 4th (that’s next Thursday!)

Where: Asqa & Hadee’s place (14/102, Doncaster Avenue, Kensington)

Time to be there: 5:00 pm (tahlil will start promptly by 5:15pm)

& be noted that Sungkai is at 6.01pm that day.

Do bring tikar sembahyang & buku Yaasin.

RSVP to Abib a.k.a. Hafiz by Tuesday, October 2nd so that we know how many people are coming and have a fair estimate on how much food to prepare for that day. You can reach Abib on his msn (abib_93@hotmail.com). If u have his number, text him. If u see him, tell him you’re coming to the gathering.

Amin!

Wassalam.

More Pictures

Greetings everyone,

Just got an email, you can find AD's picture of us during the Tandoori Palace dinner and the junjung ziarah in the site below.

Haslinda's Site

Someone PLEASE download these pictures and put them into the photobucket before these pictures are deleted soon.

Cheerios,
Airul
Dear all,

Firstly Selamat Berpuasa. Secondly, it has been a pleasure to get to know some of you during the ziarah. Some of you have approached, emailed and contacted me in person regarding 'volunteering' to be a subject for my research. Special thanks to Nazurah, who has been brave enough to do the whole experiment. Just to answer some queries, YES, I am still seeking out people who are willing to take part in a 2 hour experiment. In a nutshell, I am measuring the signal from your visual cortex by presenting stimuli on a screen. The test in itself is purely objective -you don't have to say or do anything except stare infront of you a fixation point. The aim of the study is to improve ways to detect a blinding progressive disease, glaucoma. Won't bore you all to tears here :), but do feel free to contact me anytime at snla2000@yahoo.co.uk.

SPE Annual Dinner

Another Update: Unfortunately, Ian Silvestre (Chief Reservoir Engineer for woodside) is unable to give a talk. However, we proudly present Martin kennedy (Chief Petrophysicist for woodside) will be our main speaker. =)

heh, hands up who actually cares about this news....

Dear Rabbits,

I would like to cordially invite everyone to the Annual SPE dinner. This dinner is a special one, as we are celebrating 50th Anniversary of SPE and as well as 25th Anniversary for the School of Petroleum Engineering. The dinner is the highlight of the Petroleum Engineering School.

For my non-muslim friends, there is an unlimited bar tab that runs for 4 hours that free flows alco and non alco drinks. The dinner will be at the swanky Sofitel Wentworth hotel located just 2 stops further than David Jones at the city, a breath of fresh air from the usual Royal Automobile club.

I know allowance baru keluar around the ticket sales time, so "nada duit" is a really really really bad excuse. 1st years and 2nd years are most encouraged to come. I KNOW final year and 3rd year will show up, KAN? Please contact me or any SPE representatives for ticket sales.

What: SPE Annual Dinner
Where: Sofitel Wentworth Hotel (Phillips street)
When: 22nd September 2007 from 7pm onwards (Boleh buka puasa sudah tu)
Ticket sales: $60 for students. Purchased between now and 5th September. The price is steep but i'll try very hard to get this reimbursed by Shell.
Who: Contact Airul or any of your SPE representatives

Attire: Smart/Pimp/To Impress. Some of you have been going to the gym, so its a good time to show your body har har har har har har har.

Kind Regards,
Airul Hafneh
Secrétaire pour la Société des Ingénieurs de Pétrole (SPE)

Statement of Error

Dear fellow readers of Sydney and Everywhere else,

Typical of my narcissistic behaviour, I followed the news from Borneo Bulletin, RTB online and followed the news about His Majesty's visit and gathering with the students in Sydney.

I would like to correct the following statement in the article, " The Vice-President with the Petroleum Engineering Association in Sydney, Airul Hizam bin Hj Hafneh".

for Borneo Bulletin:
Petroleum Engineering Association should be the Society of Petroleum Engineers. The newly elected Vice President of Society of Petroleum Engineers here in Sydney is Dayangku Waznah binti Pengiran Ali. While Airul Hizam bin Haji Hafneh is the outgoing secretary for the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

for RTB:
The same applies for them. It is not VP of Engineers of Sydney Petroleum.

Please take note of this important error.

The Amazing Paintball Scam

Dear Victims,

For the soon-to-be whingers, here are some pseudo-interesting facts:
-Wake up time to play golf in Brunei if you're Yazid Yasmin: 5.00am
-Wake up time to go fishing in Vietnam if you're Hien Nguyen: 2.00am

Be at Central Station by 7.20 tomorrow--Saturday, the first of September two-thousand and seven--morning.

Please don't start.

Bring your passport, a change of clothes, decent footwear to run around in, sports shoes i suppose--no steel toe boots--, $70.00 for those who have shamefully not paid yet, $21.30 for transportation costs--i'm not sorry, but it was the cheapest i could get--, perhaps some lunch and your passport and your passport and your passport and that red little book you used to smuggle your way into this glorious land.

A summary for the slow of wit amongst us:

Date: Saturday, 1st September 2007
Meeting point: Central Station (Sydney)
Time: 7:20am
Bring: $21.30, decent footwear, PASSPORT, lunch, hate & misanthropy.

Yoshi X,

SPE Election Results

Dear Rabbits,

I just came back from a SPE meeting discussing the election results. I am very happy with our results. To Aimi and Zimah, it was a close election but it was defeinitely a good try!

However, it is with every bit of pleasure that i announce you to Waznah as the...

SPE-UNSW VICE PRESIDENT 2007/08

"I'm great, har har har har omigodi'msovainrightnow"

Congratulations Waznah, we're truly proud of you. You rocked the SPE elections with 2nd highest votes (50+ votes, thats an amazing 35% of total population votes). I wish you best of success for this year and your next elections in 2008 ;)

With regards,

Airul Hafneh
Retiring secretary to SPE UNSW

PAINTBALL is ONNNNNNN!!!!!!

Paintball is set for Saturday, the 1st of September.

Some of you claim to be busy and some of you have to study for tests. You have all of this week and the next to work on that. Be a winner, be proactive. Heh.

Stay true to your typically unreliable Bruneian capability to live up to a commitment.

Get $70 to comrade Yazid by Friday (24/08/07).

To avoid looking rather dim-witted in the face of rejection, further details will only be released as soon as we get the money.

Retards,

Yoshi

P.S. As much as it sounds like it, this is not a scam.

Tell all your 'friends'

My fellow comrades,

Apparently, word of mouth is that a Bruneian Society is on it's way to formation. What better way to celebrate the establishment of organization then war? (of sorts.) And as with any good tax paying nation, you get to fund it!

AUD 70 gets you 400 pellets, (and possibly more if we book early) and some lunch. The place claims to be a 40 minute drive away from the CBD and a train ride should take slightly less than that. I'll dwell further into the details if we get a decent response.

We need at least 20 people to get a field of our own. Otherwise, like during football, we'll have to tolerate aliens, which may be pondan, smelly, constantly ganas or aggravatingly talkative. Although the constantly ganas kid is one of us, just not Bruneian..

Some of you are probably already whining about the price, it's the cheapest I could find which wasn't too far away from here. Plus, the place looks pretty decent.

If that has not convinced you, think about this; Think about that one person who you pretend to be friends with. That kid that you have to restrain from pushing down the stairs every time you're walking up the campus. The idiot that you pray you didn’t have to see every time you walk into class in the morning, and when he/she isn't there you're instantly convert into a radical muslim ready to hijack anything in the name of god. Invite that kid to come along, heck, pay for him/her if you’re desperate.

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, we’re talking about paintball.

Now run along, tell all your friends

Not really yours,

Yoshi

SPE Website

Hiye and greetings everyone.

Just to inform you that, after a few months of wrestling with the stupid software SPE gave me to make the website, unsw spe website is finally up and running.

SPE UNSW Student Chapter Website

My heartfelt thanks to Waznah for helping me untangle the HTML mumbo jumbo.

The site is a bit empty at the moment, but events have been lined up by SPE for the rest of semester, so it shoud be a good sized website soon!

In other news, SPE elections are coming up. Give a good discussion with one another about whos the next Bruneian you would want to nominate for the elections, volunteers most welcome. The influx of international students means that SPE will need a representative to be in a committee. So It's either you Shell guys, petronas or Aramco. Step up to the call!

Pesta PAT

Greetings fellow bruneians who have mostly been relocated to Sydney by force or due to financial/family pressure. (If you are here by your own accord, studying petroleum engineering, then we think that you are an idiot.) We are excited to bring to you the first ever Pesta PAT sponsored by an unknown source from Brunei Darussalam, possibly some alcohol and recreational drug distributors.

The mighty Siti Confidential, the most indie-uncelebrated bruneian band of the past decade, is coming back from hiatus and is set to play on the date! (they’re so indie that if you ever heard of them you’d have be lying because even the band members question their own existence)
And jamming is not all that will be at the gig. There will be free food, and the first ever free barbecue to date! With lamb chops! It has been far too long since we last had lamb chops. Other free consumables include the staple chicken wings, prawns on a stick, sausages and more of the staple and always economical chicken wings!

Once we announce the date, tickets will not be on sale through ticketek. We hope to see you there! Tickets are free for most earthlings (minus the vietnamese).
We have been putting this together for a while now, and we gotta thank all the killer artists for signing on to what is sure to be one stupid stupid stupid party. (And no thanks to The Saq for completely blowing us off.)

Oh, and the festival theme?? HATS & BALLOONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not really, but bring balloons, please. For me. And no caps! Tudongs don't count either.

Date: 26 June 2007
Venue: The Balcony, 27/402 Anzac ParadeDoors
open: 4pm
Tickets: http://www.tricketek.com.au/

P.S. I know what you’re thinking, “Oh jeeze it’s tomorrow!” That’s right it is, so you better be running off to your nearest supermarket to find them balloons or your nearest Route 66 for that cap that makes you look oh-so-glamorous.

Not Yours,
Yoshi

Coffee, Tea or Me?

From your proclaimed anti-social admin, :)

July 22, I have come to tell you,
A Sunday it will be,
The Rocks Aroma Festival, you see,
But will it be coffee, tea or me?

Coffee, chocolate,
Tea and spice,
A cup for a dollar and everything nice,
A day worth it definitely,
But will it be coffee, tea or me?

Not only that, ada banyak lagi!
Strawberry fondue, jagung and chocolatier delights,
Cooking demos, live music, beautiful sights,
Guarantee siuk ni,
But will it be coffee, tea or me?

So from 10 to 5, on the 22nd of July,
Hope to see you, bring along your crew,
Me, You, They, We,
Chocolate, coffee, tea or me?

Airul, Firdaus, Aimi and I had a great time at last year's coffee event and hope I'll see you there this year. For more info, go to http://www.therocks.com/

Trip Cancelled & Pictures around uni

As you guys can see for the past few days, the weather has been absolutely insane. There's no sign of this stopping so i'm cancelling the Manly trip. I'll organise it once weather has settled down.

In other news, i took a few interesting snapshots on my way to library in the cold dark weather, enjoy.

Victims of Sydney's outrageous winds for the past few days

This is one of the most depressing sights i've seen all week. They've cut down one of the big 4 trees in the library lawn. Why? I dont know, maybe disease. But it was a really sad sight to see a mighty tree brought down.

Yours

Manly to Spit trip

Not cool.

Just had a look at future forecasts, and its not looking too good with few expected showers. I'm not comfortable doing the walk even if theres a slight rain. Just in case the forecast is wrong and its a nice weather,

Details:
Meet up at the circular quay wharf at 10am. No later.
Sun sets at 5pm these days, we'd want to enjoy the walk on day light.

Your checklist:
Wear sport shoes, loose clothes and apply sun screen, even on cloudy days.
Please have some breakfast before you come, you will thank me.
Bring your swimmers, extra clothes, lunch and a happy face!

HSE Matters:
-Watch out for slippery areas that you might step on.
-A wet rock is not a place to jump around. I got injured last time doing that.
-As much fun as a ferry ride can get, take a few moments to emergency procedures.
-Australia has satanic creatures.
for eg. If something has 8 legs, small, black with a huge red dot on the ass, run the f**k away. St. John Ambulance emergency procedure requires that the spider be captured for identification in the very unlikely event someone gets bitten...You have got to be joking me.

Extra hazards after rain:
a) Trek would be uber slippery. There are small stone stairs there, which are already quite slippery on a hot weather.
b) One section of the trail is prone to flooding. Wouldn't want that to happen.
c) Walking on the rocky beach side will be similar as skating on ice.
d) Toxic levels in the sydney harbour rises after rain. So no swimming. Yes, there's even a warning sign on Clontarf beach prohibiting swimming few hours after rain.

UNSW Singapore Closes Down!

Old news, but i just found it!

The famous Manly to Spit Hike

I know this is the exam season, but just to let you guys know, i'll be hiking up in Manly next Sunday (10th June). This is pending on good weather and if i don't haven anything up. If the weather is good, i'll be going regardless if anyone bothers to tag along. I'll be watching the future forecasts, watch this space.

It costs $4.50, i think..or is it $9, for a ferry ride to Manly. Then we'll walk for about 9.5km to the spit, which will take 4 hours of straight walking. 8-10km isn't much, but the path isn't flat and there will be steep hills that should really tire you and kick up cramps by the end of the journey. Shahbandar is a 4-5km walk.. so it's just like that, but double the distance.

In return for the bloody long and tiring walk, you will be rewarded with some of the most beautiful views of the harbour and a few picture perfect locations. at 90% of the way, we'll come across the beautiful Clontarf beach to rest and dip before finishing all the way. so bring swimmers along.

Then its a brown click back to the City and we'll arrive at the city at QVB and up to you how you want to soak the time as the day ends.

I'll brief more if it's confirmed (both weather and my plans, point of view). here are a few pictures from Faiq and my walk in Manly just a year ago.

This is a site of our first check point, 5km hike.

The beautiful Clontarf beach, 1.5km to go

Many Thanks

Dear All,

Thanks for showing up to the SPE lunch. SPE appreciates your support. Although, i think the food was a bit of a hiccup. But rest assured, this will go to our learning points in the SPE follow through meeting. We do hope you guys have a nice time.

In any way, if you have any feedbacks, please leave it on the comment section below, NOT the tag board, for i fear i would not be able to pick those feedback up. I will guarantee that the feedback be brought up in the next SPE committee meeting for the consideration of future improvements.

As for pixies, thanks to Yazid who has kindly volunteered his time to take pictures. I'll post them up as soon as they are available in the petroserver.

Kind Regards,
Airul Hafneh (Darth Airul)
Secretary to SPE UNSW Chapter.

Changes To Academic Year

Dear Students,

You will have noted in the 2008 Calendar, posted on myUNSW, that major

changes to the University's academic calendar are taking effect from 2008.
I thought it important to explain to you the reasons behind the changes,
and how they will affect you.

The changes have been under discussion for some time, and approved by both
the Academic Board and the University Council. They have been introduced
to streamline our teaching and learning, and bring UNSW in line with
other Australian universities. Previously, UNSW had longer teaching and
examination sessions than any other Go8 university. Session lengths at
UNSW have not been changed in over 40 years, and new pedagogic practices
mean that learning and teaching is today done in a very different fashion.
Many students are spending part of their degrees in industrial placements
or on international exchange, and the changes will facilitate this.

The Vice-Chancellor has therefore approved changes that will shorten the
standard teaching period length from 14 to 12 weeks of classes. The summer
session will continue, but will be offered in a standard timetable of 8
weeks, with a standard examination period and schedule for finalisation of
results.

The features of the new calendar are as follows:
- The academic year will be divided into 3 - Semester 1, Semester 2,
and Summer Term.
- Semester 1 and 2 will have a 12 week standard teaching period.
Semester 1 will, as at present, be preceded by O-week. In addition, the
week before the commencement of Semester 2 will be used for
Faculty-specific scheduled activities such as Engineering Week, excursions
etc.
- The summer term will consist of an 8 week summer teaching period,
divided into 2 x 4 week periods conducted before and after Christmas/New
Year.
- Teaching in all courses will be conducted within the start and end
dates defined for each teaching period. This will apply to the Summer Term
in particular.
- Fee, enrolment and census dates will be set for each teaching
period
- As is already the case in 2007, students will be able to enrol by
Semester, rather than by year.
- The assessment and examination periods will be shortened. The
increased space between Semester 1 and Semester 2 will ensure students
receive their results in time to make informed choices about courses for
the next semester.
- Earlier scheduling of graduation ceremonies will be possible.
The revised academic calendar applies to all programs at Kensington and
COFA campuses with the exception of the undergraduate Medicine program.
The changes do not apply to ADFA.

The 2008 calendar for award programs offered through the AGSM in the
Faculty of Business is to be confirmed.

We anticipate that the 2007/8 Summer Term will be administered on the
basis of the 2008 Calendar changes, commencing on 26 November.
Further information, including the new Academic Calendar, can be found via
the myUNSW portal. Enquiries can be made directly to calendar@unsw.edu.au

Best wishes,
Professor Joan Cooper
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Students) & Registrar

Veni, Vidi, Vici

"Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh. Saya Dk Waznah Pg Hj Ali. Berita-berita utama...

This is how events unfolded earlier this evening...

DRM Syd supporters literally held their breath when Yazid successfully dodged and saved the ball by opponent, Black Balls in the 2nd minute after a 5.12pm kick-off. The game just came to life...

This was apparent when Black Ball's goalie had no chance against Fadhli's opening goal (sound familiar?) in the 4th minute. Twenty seconds later, the opposition broke through our defence and scored. In the 3rd and a half minute, Asqa would have scored the perfect header but he was not going to give up because he slipped the ball past the goalkeeper a minute and a half later.

Chances scoring a goal twice from corner kicks slipped through but a sweet goal by Hafiz in the 11th minute brought the score to 3-2. With a minute and a half left before the half-time whistle, the opponents stepped up their game and scored their second goal the beginning of the 15th minute.

At half-time, the score was 3-2 to DRMSyd.

Whatever Sulhi said to his fellow teammates during half-time certainly worked because Sulhi scored a 4th one for DRM, aided by Fadhli just minutes into the second half. The opposition kicked back by scoring 2 minutes later. In the 22nd minute, Faiq made a comeback to try and improve DRM Syd's game. The crowd went wild when our super-goalie,Yazid made a great reaction save - anything to not bring the game to a tie.

It was too good to be true. Black Balls brought the game to a tie when they scored a goal in the 24th minute. The score became 4-all.

With six minutes left in the game, it was hell hath no fury. Tempers of players heightened regarding some of the referee's decisions; so were the levels of testosterone. The cheers of supporters increased in volume. Huff and puff, DRM Syd would fight.

Our man of the match, our very own, wearing Alain Delon shorts today, Fadhli brought the house down when he broke the tie seconds before the end of the game. We won! We won!

It could be said that victory was written in the lines of destiny for DRM Sydney this evening. Veni, Vidi, Vici - We came, we sought, we conquered. In memory of their 5-win streak and sweet victory tonight, each were awarded a medal by MSO's Sports Representative.

Great job DRM Sydney! You guys rock!
